31 easy items to declutter for august for a simplified and organised home


Want to make the most of this summer month to get your home decluttered and organised?


With the summer upon us and the start of a new month - take this time to declutter and organise summer items in your home. Maybe you have some extra time off from work, family are home to help or you are off on holiday and packing. Lighter mornings and evenings mean we can do more than just in the daytime and stay motivated a little bit longer.


So here are 31 items to easily declutter from your home giving you more space and maybe some extra money before we head into a new season.

31 items - one per day and where you can take them:


  1. Garden toys - check what toys have been outgrown and donate/sell any you no longer need.

  2. Summer shoes - are there ones that are too worn or no longer fit? - donate/sell or keep for next child if required.

  3. Garden pots - use a freecycle scheme or give to local garden centre for them to use.

  4. Worn out towels - as not suitable for charity, repurpose as cleaning rags or donate to local animal shelter or vets.

  5. Suncream - if it has been opened for more than 12 months it won't be as safe to use. Recycle bottle and ensure you are stocked up with fresh lotion.

  6. Suitcases - check you are not storing luggage that is no longer fit for use. Donate or bin ones no longer suitable.

  7. Travel items - only keep ones you need like luggage scales and travel pillows.

  8. Old magazines - donate to local health centre or library or recycle.

  9. Unwanted clothing - sell on eBay, Vinted or similar sites. Donate to charity or if in poor condition, recycle the items.

  10. Picnic supplies - Throw broken or mismatched items and donate any sets or blankets no longer wanted.

  11. Old decor - Summer artwork or cushions no longer in style or wanted can be sold, donated or recycled.

  12. Coolers and icepacks - replace any broken or damaged ones.

  13. Sunglasses - get rid of unused or scratched ones. 

  14. Holiday trinkets - only keep the most sentimental (and try not to keep buying them!)

  15. Outgrown or unused children's toys - ensuring they are in good condition for safety, donate to charity or local schools/childcare facilities.

  16. Old garden furniture - Recycle or donate any broken or unwanted furniture.

  17. Unread or unwanted books - donate to charities, book banks or other schemes which will take them.

  18. Unwanted or old rucksacks - donate to local schools or charities.

  19. Hotel toiletries - donate to local recycling scheme or in a store.

  20. Unwanted holiday decorations - donate to charities but make sure it is to close to the correct season as they won't want to store them. Or freecycle schemes.

  21. Alcohol no longer wanted - donate to friends or empty down the sink and recycle the bottles.

  22. Bug spray and medication - check in date and bin and replace all that is not useable.

  23. Old bbq tools - any that are rusty or not used, donate or recycle.

  24. Camping items - check what you have and still use and donate/bin the rest.

  25. Summer hats - donate or throw any no longer used or that don't fit.

  26. Beach bags - throw faded or damaged ones.

  27. Washing line pegs - get rid of any that no longer work or are marked and could ruin your laundry.

  28. Fans - recycle or donate any no longer needed or are broken.

  29. Water bottles - donate or recycle all unused or duplicate bottles and check each one for leakage.

  30. Bicycle gear - donate or sell any outgrown helmets and bikes.

  31. Foreign currency - only keep what you need and don't keep any that is now non-tender.
